FAMILIES WITH KIDS LOVE THE FLYING J RANCH

For over thirty years families have been enjoying the western experience of the Flying J Ranch. Not only do children have fun, but they get to connect to the heritage of the Great American West. From exploring the Ranch and Bonita City, to roping dummies and riding ponies, to finding the lost mine and panning for gold, kids have a great time at the Ranch. And kids love the great chuck wagon food.

Here at the Ranch we believe families are the cornerstone of our great nation. To help make your visit affordable, young-uns three and under are our guests - no charge. Our $15 child ticket and $25 adult ticket include virtually everything: chuck wagon meal, drinks, entertainment, exhibits, gratuity, parking and most attractions.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE KIDS

All of our entertainment is family friendly, but here are some activities our younger visitors really enjoy!

Bonita City Gunfight
SHOWTIME - 6:45 pm
Be on the look out as trouble may erupt on main street between Sheriff Roy and the Flying J Gunfighters. These outlaws have been known to cause chaos in Bonita City with their poor aim and attempts at humor. And this time they will have help from the infamous One-Eyed Bart.

Deputy Training School
SHOWTIME - 6:25 pm
Sheriff Roy is looking for some little deputies to help capture the villainous outlaw One-Eyed Bart. But being a deputy means more than a tin-star on your chest and a six-shooter on your hip. Young-uns 12 and under can learn the Code of the West and join Sheriff Roy’s posse.

The Fiddler's Side Show
SHOWTIME - 5:45 pm
Travelers are drawn by the spell of music from the talented bow and beautiful voice of Flying J Wrangler Corinna Ripple. She welcomes the evening to Lincoln County from the Flying J Chuck Wagon as children of all ages gather to hear her stories, fiddle and serenade.

Pony Express Ride
On October 26, 1861 the last Pony Express message was delivered from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California by horseback in under 10 days. The express is now gone but we still have the pony to ride here at the Flying J Ranch. Cowboys and cowgirls under 12 can ride the Pony Express (well, more like the Pony Walk) like the couriers did across the great west.

Pistol Shoot
Test your quick-draw skills at the pistol shoot with real old west six-shooters. Take three shots at the target and see if you can shoot straight from the hip! Take home your target for bragging rights.

Cattle Roping at the Flying J Corral
The cattle didn’t always want to “get along” on the trail so cowboys became skilled in roping the disagreeable bovines. Roping continues today in rodeo competitions around the west. You and your young-uns can test your skill on a roping “dummy” at the Flying J Corral.

Gold Panning
The lure of gold brought prospectors to New Mexico as well as California. Most went home with tales of adventure in the west but with empty pockets. Now your lil’ prospectors can try their hand at panning for gold. Any “gold” they find is theirs to take home as a souvenir from Bonita City.

The Old Chisum Trail
For those who want to enjoy a bit of God’s beautiful creation and stretch their legs, the The Old Chisum Trail provides a 10 minute walk into the woods behind Bonita City.

TeePee
The Native American culture has had a profound influence on life in New Mexico. Visit the TeePee exhibit here at the Ranch. The TeePee contains Native American artifacts and a short audio presentation on the history of the local Mescalero tribe.

Bonita Mining Co. Gold Mine
The Old Chisum Trail leads to the old Bonita Mining Co. Gold Mine. If you listen carefully you can still hear the echoes of the dreams of prospectors from years past.
